The Polyurethane Elastomer also have many other properties.
1.9 Electrical properties
The electrical insulation performance of polyurethane elastomer is relatively good at normal operating temperatures, roughly equivalent to the level of chloroprene rubber and phenolic resin. Because it can be both cast and thermoformed, it is often used as a material for potting electrical components and cable sheathing. Due to its relatively large molecular polarity and affinity for water, polyurethane elastomer's electrical properties change greatly with ambient temperature, and it is not suitable for use as high-frequency electrical materials. In addition, the electrical properties of polyurethane elastomers decrease with temperature and increase with the hardness of the material.
1.10 Radiation resistance performance
Among synthetic polymer materials, polyurethane elastomers have excellent resistance to high-energy rays. It still has satisfactory performance under the radiation dose of 105-106Gy. However, light-colored or transparent elastomers will undergo discoloration under the action of rays, which is similar to the phenomenon observed during hot air or atmospheric aging tests.
1.11 Fungus resistance
The mold resistance of polyether polyurethane is pretty good, and the test grade is 0-1, which means there is basically no mold growth. However, polyester polyurethane is not resistant to mold, and test results show serious mold growth. It is not suitable for outdoor use in tropical and subtropical areas and for storage in hot and humid conditions. Polyester polyurethane elastomers used outdoors and in hot and humid environments must add antifungal agents (such as copper octahydroxyquinoline, BCM, etc., generally at a dosage of 0.1%-0.5%) in the formula to improve their antifungal properties. .
1.12Biomedical properties
Polyurethane materials have excellent biocompatibility. Acute and chronic toxicology tests and animal tests have confirmed that medical polyurethane materials are non-toxic, have no distortion effects, no allergic reactions, no local irritation, and no pyrogen. They are the most valuable. One of the synthetic medical polymer materials.
