Trihydroxymethyl propane (TMP for short), white flaky crystals.It is soluble in water, low-carbon alcohol, glycerol, N, N-dimethylformamide, partially soluble in acetone, ethyl acetate, and slightly soluble in carbon tetrachloride, ether and chloroform.It is mainly used in alkyd resins, polyurethane, unsaturated resins, polyester resins, coatings and other fields. It can also be used in the synthesis of aviation lubricants, printing inks, etc., and can also be used as a thermal stabilizer for textile additives and polyvinyl chloride resins.

Main purpose

Trihydroxymethyl propane is an important fine chemical product, and it is a commonly used chain extender in the resin industry.It has a low melting point and has 3 hydroxymethyl groups in its molecular structure. It can react with organic acids to form monoesters or polyesters, react with aldehydes and ketones to form acetals and ketones, and react with diisocyanates to form carbamates. Products are mainly used in alkyd resins, polyurethane, unsaturated resins, polyester resins, coatings and other fields, can also be used in the synthesis of aviation lubricants, plasticizers, surfactants, wetting agents, explosives, printing inks, etc., can also be used as textile additives and thermal stabilizers for polyvinyl chloride resins.

Role in polyurethane synthesis

 

1.Enhance the reactivity of reactants

Trihydroxymethyl propane contains a large number of active hydroxyl groups. During the synthesis of polyurethane, it can condense with reactants such as polyether polyols to form a redox reaction, and the polymerization reaction occurs quickly and gradually under the action of a solvent, which enhances the reactivity of the reactants.

2.Improve the mechanical properties of polyurethane materials

Since trihydroxymethyl propane has multiple hydroxyl groups, it can condense with isocyanates in polyether polyols, thereby improving the mechanical properties of polyurethane materials such as elasticity and rigidity through nucleophilic substitution reactions.

3.Improve the weather resistance of polyurethane materials

The hydroxyl group in trihydroxymethyl propane can react with the isocyanate remaining on the polyurethane chain to form a crosslinked structure, thereby improving the weather resistance of the polyurethane material and increasing its service life.

Storage and transportation characteristics

1.Precautions for operation.Airtight operation, strengthen ventilation.Operators must undergo special training and strictly abide by operating procedures.It is recommended that operators wear self-priming filter dust masks.Keep away from fire and heat sources, and smoking is strictly prohibited in the workplace.Use explosion-proof ventilation systems and equipment.Avoid contact with oxidants and acids.Load and unload lightly during handling to prevent damage to the packaging.Equipped with corresponding varieties and quantities of fire-fighting equipment and leakage emergency treatment equipment.Emptied containers may contain harmful substances.

 

2. Storage precautions.Store in a cool and ventilated warehouse.Keep away from fire and heat sources.It should be stored separately from oxidants and acids, and should not be mixed.Equipped with corresponding varieties and quantities of fire fighting equipment.The storage area should be equipped with suitable materials to contain leaks.

 

The packaging should be complete at the time of shipment and the loading should be safe.During transportation, make sure that the container does not leak, collapse, fall, or damage.

 

It is strictly prohibited to mix and transport with oxidants, acids, etc.During transportation, it should be protected from exposure, rain, and high temperature.

Packaging and storage

1.The standard packaging is 30kg plastic drums.At the same time,in order to facilitate transportation, various specifications packaging can be provided according to customer requirements.Please comply with local regulations during transportation.The antistatic agent is a non-hazardous substance,but please do not mix it with food and food additives in transportation.

2.Store in a cool, dry and unopened place.Shelf time is 1 year. Please use it within 3 months after opening.Avoid direct sunlight,in order to extend the use time, please do not store in an environment higher than 40℃.If the storage period is exceeded, please do a performance test before use.
