On May 28, 2025, global specialty chemicals leader Huntsman Corporation held a celebration in Shanghai to mark the 30th anniversary of its investments in the Asia-Pacific region. Since entering China in 1995, Huntsman's cumulative investment in the country has exceeded RMB 15 billion.

According to Tony Hankins, President of Huntsman's Polyurethanes Asia-Pacific Division, the company's strategy is guided by "Four Pillars of Sustainable Innovation," with a sharp focus on three key growth areas: new energy vehicles, sustainable construction, and the upgrading of consumer goods.

Over the past three decades, China's industrial landscape has changed dramatically. Traditional sectors such as real estate and fossil-fuel-based vehicles are facing slowing growth. In contrast, emerging industries-including artificial intelligence, low-altitude economy (e.g., drones and air mobility), and renewable energy-are rapidly gaining momentum.

Looking ahead, Hankins emphasized that while creating long-term value in China, Huntsman has consistently advanced its "Four Pillars of Sustainable Innovation" strategy. This vision now reaches into nearly every aspect of consumers' daily lives-from what they wear to where they live and how they travel.

Huntsman's Polyurethanes Division will continue to concentrate on three main markets. First, the new energy vehicle sector, where China leads both in domestic adoption and global exports. This makes it a critical and fast-growing segment. Second, the sustainable construction sector. In China, over 50% of carbon emissions come from the building industry. With the increasing demand for "better homes," the need for advanced fireproofing, insulation, and acoustic materials creates strong potential for MDI-based solutions. Third, consumer goods upgrades. The Chinese government is actively promoting consumption and encouraging higher-quality products. Everyday items such as clothing, furniture, mattresses, pillows, and footwear all represent significant markets for MDI and polyurethane applications.

With a solid foundation and a forward-looking approach, Huntsman aims to remain a key contributor to China's evolving industrial and sustainable development.
