40T is a single-coat surface treatment specifically designed to bond elastomers-such as castable polyurethane, millable polyurethane, epoxy resin, phenolic resin, and various specialty rubbers-to metal and other rigid substrates.
In certain applications, it is also suitable for bonding thermoplastic polyurethane to rigid substrates.
Adhesive 40T Application Process
1. Sandblasting of the metal frame.
2. Clean the metal frame with MEK, acetone, or aromatic solvents.
3. Drying
After cleaning, allow the parts to air dry naturally. Make sure the surface is completely dry. Under current weather conditions, drying takes approximately 30 minutes after cleaning.
4. Adhesive application
Pour out an appropriate amount of adhesive. Slowly add 30 percent thinner while stirring continuously. Apply the adhesive evenly by brushing and allow it to air dry for approximately 1 hour. Apply a second coat and allow it to dry for more than 1 hour.
5. Pre-curing
Pre-curing can only be carried out after the metal frame is completely dry. The recommended temperature is 110–120 degrees Celsius. The holding time should be sufficient to ensure that both the internal and external temperatures of the frame reach the required level. Casting is recommended on the same day. If casting is carried out the next day, it should not exceed 24 hours, and the parts must be stored in a moisture-proof and dust-proof bag to prevent contamination.
6. Casting
7. Post-curing
Notes
It is recommended to apply the adhesive in two coats to achieve the appropriate film thickness. After each coat, the adhesive must be completely air dried.
