What Is The Preparation Method Of Stannous Octanoate T-9?

The preparation methods of stannous octanoate T-9 mainly include the following:
Aldehyde disproportionation method: This method involves the reaction of stannous salt with isooctyl aldehyde under specific conditions to generate stannous octanoate through the self-disproportionation reaction of aldehyde. However, due to the complexity and low selectivity of aldehyde disproportionation reaction, this method is not common in actual production.
Anhydride method: Stannous salt (such as stannous chloride or stannous oxide) is reacted with isooctyl anhydride in an appropriate solvent and conditions to generate stannous octanoate and the corresponding hydrogen halide or water. After the reaction is completed, the unreacted substances are removed by filtration and distillation to obtain pure stannous octanoate.
Double decomposition method: Stannous salt is used to react with sodium (or potassium) isooctyl salt in an organic solvent to generate stannous octanoate and inorganic salts. The key is to control the pH value and reaction conditions of the reaction system to promote the formation of stannous octanoate and inhibit side reactions.
‌Electrochemical method‌: It is carried out in an electrolytic cell, using current to pass through the anode and cathode to reduce the stannous salt to stannous octoate at the cathode. This method has the advantages of stable production process control, simple operation, low large-scale production cost and good product quality, but its industrial application has not been widely reported‌.

‌Specific experimental steps‌:

In a three-necked flask equipped with a mechanical stirrer, a thermometer and a reflux condenser, add isooctanoic acid and stannous oxide.
Under nitrogen protection, the mixture is heated to about 140°C and the reaction lasts for about 90 minutes.
After the reaction is completed, filter out the unreacted stannous oxide.
Water and unreacted isooctanoic acid are removed by vacuum distillation to obtain pure stannous octoate‌.
