What Are Polyurethane Doors And Windows?

Fiberglass reinforced polyurethane window frame profiles are high-performance thermosetting composite materials made by pultrusion, using glass fiber as the reinforcing material and polyurethane resin as the matrix. Since polyurethane itself is an excellent thermal insulation material, window and door profiles made from it feature low overall heat transfer coefficients and outstanding thermal performance. They are also lightweight yet strong, fire-resistant, corrosion- and salt-spray-resistant, and dimensionally stable.

Compared with traditional aluminum alloy or PVC doors and windows, polyurethane doors and windows have significant advantages in terms of energy efficiency and durability. Aluminum profiles, while strong, have a high thermal conductivity, leading to heat loss between indoors and outdoors. PVC profiles, though thermally efficient, tend to age, deform, and have lower structural stability. Polyurethane doors and windows combine the strengths of both materials-they provide excellent structural strength along with superior insulation performance, effectively reducing building energy consumption and meeting the requirements of passive houses and ultra-low energy buildings.

Polyurethane profiles can be designed with multi-cavity structures through mold customization to further enhance thermal and sound insulation. Their surfaces can be finished with lamination, coating, or aluminum cladding, achieving a clean and elegant appearance suitable for modern architectural aesthetics. As the material contains no metallic thermal bridges, there is no condensation or "cold bridge" effect on the frame surface, ensuring a more comfortable indoor environment.

In terms of production, fiberglass-reinforced polyurethane profiles are manufactured using a continuous pultrusion process, which ensures high dimensional precision, stable performance, and suitability for mass production. They are widely used in residential buildings, public facilities, hospitals, and schools. With the growing emphasis on green building concepts, polyurethane doors and windows are emerging as the ideal next-generation energy-efficient solution, representing the future direction of the window and door industry.
